Aids Walk For Life

Okay, this may be a first on a blog, but I figure suggesting what people should listen to, watch, and go spend money on is just two steps away from solicitation :) (actually, I think I just defined solicitation). Any-hoozlebees, I am participating in the Aids Walk For Life on September 17th and I am hoping to raise as much money as possible for this very worthy cause. If you would like to sponsor me please go to https://secure.e2rm.com/registrant/PersonalPage.aspx?EID=6468&RegistrationID=208290 . Even if you are a simple visitor to this site who has no idea who I am, but you want to do something good, please feel free to do so. The more money I can raise the better. The walk raises money for ACT (The Aids Commitee of Toronto), which provides essential programs and services for people living or effected by HIV/AIDS. So, in conclusion...don't be an asshole, give generously. Kisses.

Fiona Apple - "The First Taste" Video

Fiona Apple - First Taste

I had no idea Fiona even released this song as a single, let alone made a video for it. It's nice, she looks pretty (a little plain...but pretty), and her dancing is cute. "Full is not heavy as empty not nearly my love". Perfect song to groove along to. (From the album "Tidal", for those who don't know her stuff).

Sheryl Crow/John Mayer Tour

I just read (God I'm fucking slow, this was announced ages ago) Sheryl Crow and John Mayer have joined forces to present (what I'm sure is going to be) one of the hottest concert tours of the fall. Having started in Pittsburgh on August 24th, the tour is set to run until October 12th in Tampa, Florida. There is only one Canadian date, for Vancouver, BC on September 22nd. I'm kinda bummed there is no Toronto gig in place, but I guess he was just here at the Mod Club and she was here at Casino Rama so...their sick and tired of Ontario. It's a shame though, John is one of the best live musicians I've ever seen, and Sheryl may look cute and sweet but she puts on one hell of a smokin' show. I'm very impressed by her stage presence. To see them perform a duet would be sweet. After the last show on the 12th, John will resume touring on his own, in support of his new album, and hopefully Sheryl will hit the recording studio.

Speaking of John though, word is he had to cancel the August 26th show of the tour due to laryngitis, Sheryl simply played a longer set as not to upset the crowd. Atta Girl!
Plus, John will also be appearing on the season premiere of (My most HATED show) CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. He will perform his latest single and new song "Dancing In A Burning Room" in a scene set in a Las Vegas nightclub. Couldn't you pick a good show to sing on? Jesus, why did they have to cancel Ally McBeal? They had Tina Turner on, I'm sure they could have made room for Mr. Mayer. Bollocks! Hopefully he'll only be on the screen for half a second (like Tori Amos in Mona Lisa Smile).

Sarah Silverman - "My Favorite Niece"

Sarah Silverman-My Favorite Niece(stand-up comedy)

One of my favorite moments (out of many) from Sarah Silverman's "Jesus Is Magic" DVD. Hilarious. Go buy it if you like totally offensive humor. Love It!

Top Emmy Dresses

Okay here are some of my favorite dresses from Sundays Emmy Awards. Enjoy.

Evangeline Lilly of "Lost" is so stunning in this purple Versace gown. Too bad she can't look this great on the show.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus proves that she can make it as someone other than Elaine.

Lisa Kudrow was nominated for her cancelled comedy series The Comeback. I can understand why they cancelled Joey but The Comeback was hilarious. Lisa is for sure the best of the Friends actresses. She may rework The Comeback and do something else with it. Long live Valerie Cherish.

Megan Mullally, I miss Karen already but I have her talk show to look forward to. On the red carpet Debra Messing confessed that she has already been booked on the show. Sweet, I love this dress.

Mariska Hargitay: She looks great for a woman who just had a baby 2 months ago. Well done.

Calista Flockhart is returning to tv this fall in the show Brothers & Sisters, thank God. I loved Ally McBeal and I can't wait for this show. Ron Rifkin and Patricia Wettig (of Alias fame) also star.

Last but not least, Jaime Pressly. My Name Is Earl's slutty hosebag of an ex-wife looking hot, hot, hot. They always do though, don't they?

There were some others but none that I found noteworthy enough to put on here. Sorry ladies. I have standards.

Ask The Dust: Review

As I mentioned in my post "Idina Returns To The Green", I did watch the film Ask The Dust, and it was a lot more enjoyable than I had originally anticipated it to be. The story (based on the novel Ask The Dust by John Fante) centers around Arturo Bandini (played by Colin Farrell), a struggling Italian-American author in search of fame, fortune and a pretty blonde to be seen by his side in the streets of Depression-era Los Angeles. What he finds is fiery, hot tempered, Mexican waitress Camilla Lopez (Salma Hayek), who herself longs to marry a rich, well to do white man and shed the racial limitations that come from her last name. The two meet, instantly (and naturally) colliding in a world where the relationship between Anglo-Americans and people of Mexican descent is met with hostility and ignorance. A nice little love story that does not unfold easily or smoothly (but in the end satisfyingly and beautifully). Colin does an incredible job portraying the confused, inexperienced (almost adolescent in a sense) writer, trying to come to terms with his self worth (especially where Camilla is concerned). He refuses to let her embarrass herself by pretending to be something that she isn't, yet he as a struggling author who can't provide her with the lifestyle to which she aspires to someday be accustomed, feels inadequate and ultimately unworthy. Until, however, he comes across Vera (Idina Menzel), a haunted, emotionally (and physically) scarred young woman, who is longing for love and acceptance in the face of her own inadequacies and who becomes a muse in many ways for Arturo's writing. Making him realize that people hurt the ones they love when they feel they can't make them happy, Arturo makes Camilla confront her own definition of happiness. Directed by Robert Towne (Chinatown), this movie does have it's share of slow points (as most love stories tend to), and there are moments when you just want to scream at your TV "Just stop fighting with each other and fall in love already". But overall it was not bad at all. I'd give it 3 out of 5. You'll either like it or not. Colin does a fantastic American accent though (I never caught him slipping once). Although after watching that sex tape he did, I can't quite look at him the same way in a film anymore. I wasn't a big fan before, but after watching his bedside manner....you're one of those people who just shouldn't talk during sex Colin. Frankly you're embarrassing.

Victoria Beckham - "Let Your Head Go" On Top Of The Pops

Let Your Head Go Live at TOTP X'MAS

Melanie C. - "First Day Of My Life" Video

First day of my life - Melanie C

I heard this song all over Canadian radio a few months after I bought Melanie's latest "Beautiful Intentions", but I never did see this video surface. She is so pretty now. She always had her horrible off days during the Spice Girls, and upon the release of her first album, but now....Wow!

PS. This song is not on my version of Beautiful Intentions, it must have been added to an international version of the album. Boo, I enjoy this song a great deal.

Melanie C. - "Yeh, Yeh, Yeh" Video

Yeh yeh yeh - Melanie C

I've decided to add a few Melanie C video's, since I did full news stories on Victoria and Emma. I love Melanie, her albums are all gorgeous. I wish she were more popular. Here is the video for the song "Yeh, Yeh, Yeh" from her second album "Reason".

I like playing this game. Okay lets put together a picture of Donatella Versace and Janice from the muppets and marvel at the similarities shall we? Here goes...

Truly astonishing! Okay, I'm bored...so sue me. Like your life is perfect?

Idina Returns To The Green

Idina Menzel, best known for her spell binding origination of the role of Elphaba (the witch of the west) in the hit Broadway musical "Wicked", has announced that she will once again be donning the green make-up to reprise her Tony award winning role of the green girl in London's West End Production.

In other news, Idina is also hard at work on her new album to be released by Warner Brothers, she hopes to have it out sometime next year. In the meantime, for any of you Idina fans who need a fix, you can order the Original Cast Recording of her latest theatre venture "See What I Wanna See" here http://www.sh-k-boom.com/boutique.html (please notice that you can also purchase Rent co-hort Adam Pascal's album "Civilian" here too. It is a good one). You can also rent "Ask The Dust" with Colin Farrell, Salma Hayek, and Idina, and make an evening out of it. I'm watching it tonight, I hope it's good.

Fuck Me Gently With A Chainsaw

I keep getting excited whenever I go on some of these film rumor sites, because for years now most of them have been swirling with gossip about a possible sequel to the 80's cult classic "Heathers".

Stating that Winona Ryder is at work with writer Daniel Waters to reprise her role of Veronica Sawyer who's "teen-angst bullshit has a body count", and how Christian Slater will appear as his character Jason "JD" Dean (who died at the end of the original) in a Obi-Wan-esque dream sequence. All of which have not been sufficiently confirmed or denied to my liking. What's your damage? Just tell me what the hell is going on. End the Suspense Already!

"You're Beautiful."

Mariah In Tennessee

Mariah Carey is hitting the silver screen again (not in a Glitter sequel, thank god) in the film "Tennessee". The role originally slated to be played by Janet Jackson was granted to Mariah after Janet backed out due to scheduling conflicts.

Pictured above from left: Mira Sorvino, Melora Walters, Mariah Carey from Wise Girls

Mariah will play a waitress who sets off with two brothers who must return to their childhood home in East Tennessee from New Mexico, to track down their abusive father when one of the brothers falls ill and needs a life saving bone marrow transplant from the man they ran from years ago. Directed by "Rhinoceros Eyes" director Aaron Woodley, Mariah was considered for the part after producer Lee Daniels (Monsters Ball) witnessed her acting skills in the film "Wise Girls", opposite Mira Sorvino and Melora Walters. Damn right too!

Miss Jackson Update

Everyone is talking about Janet these days. You either love or hate the songs that have been so far released onto the internet from her upcoming "20 Y.O" CD, you commend and admire her for losing all that weight so quickly, and we are all hoping this new project revitalizes her career after the less than stellar sales of Damita Jo.

Here is some info that has got me "So Excited". (Yah, couldn't resist the pun. What a loser I am)

Number 1) Janet is set to be on Oprah upon the release of the album. The episode will be taped on September 1st and the air date is tentatively scheduled for the day of the albums release (September 26th).

Number 2) Two versions of the album are said to be available. The deluxe edition includes special packaging and is said to contain a bonus DVD of Janet rehearsing and recording the album, behind the scenes of photo shoots, as well as picking the winner of the "Design Me" contest

Number 3) I have a list of some of the confirmed tracks for the album (in no particular order)

1) Call On Me feat. Nelly
2) This Body Of Mine
3) Stuck Inside The Groove (rumored to contain a John Mayer sample)
4) So Excited
5) With U
6) Enjoy
7) Clap Your Hands
8) Love 2 Love
9) Daybreak
10) Take Care
11) Do It To Me
12) Get It Out Me
13) Show Me

And finally Jermaine Dupri has confirmed that a duet with Janet and Mariah Carey will happen for the album. The duet however will be featured on the repackaged version of 20 Y.O.

Lets hope So Excited will do better than Call On Me. The song is a hell of a lot better. She just needs a kick ass video to go with it. The video for Call On Me was awful, she looked like a demented extra from the movie "The Cell". I was waiting for Vincent D' Onofrio to come barging in and claim his Queen.

Continuum Tracklisting

Husky voiced, ultra smooth, blues rock singer John Mayer is set to release his new album "Continuum" September 12th. Here is the tracklisting for the album (as I have heard it)...

1) Waiting On The World To Change
2) I Don't Trust Myself (With Loving You)
3) Belief
4) Gravity (live version featured on John Mayer Trio album "Try!")
5) The Heart Of Life
6) Vultures (live version featured on John Mayer Trio album "Try!")
7) Slow Dancing In A Burning Room
8) Stop This Train
9) Bold As Love (Jimi Hendrix cover)
10) Dreaming With A Broken Heart
11) In Repair
12) I'm Gonna Find Another You

The album was produced by Mayer and John Mayer Trio drummer Steve Jordan. Combining his signature pop music with the feel, sound and sensibilities of the blues, John has made it clear that the record will stay in the same realm as his release with the trio. The first single "Waiting on the World To Change" was the third most downloaded song of the week following its July 11th release, and debuted at #25 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Lord he looks good with longer hair.

Beckham Does A Body Good!

The new Got Milk? ad featuring David Beckham wearing the famous milk mustache premiered to the public yesterday. Wow! His balls.....er, his bones look really strong!

Emma Bunton In The Studio

Next we have sweet little Baby Spice who was always my least favorite of the group, but who has in these past couple of years grown to be one of the most enjoyable.

First she released her debut solo CD "A Girl Like Me", a predictable blend of sugary sweet songs about her Mum and her friends who she missed so much (gag me) which all contained the slightly catchy formula of her previous job. Still hanging on to the Baby Spice image, which just didn't work without the other four girls to back her up. The one standout track was her funky remake of Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians "What I Am". Good try Ms. Bunton, but I still didn't buy you as a solo artist.

Next, however came her sophomore achievement 2004's "Free Me". Dropping her last name, and ditching the Baby spice image for a more mature, sexier one, Emma hit back with an impressive collection of 60's James Bond/Nancy Sinatra-esque inspired songs. With lots of live strings and horns, her ballads reached a new level of sensuality that was never overdone (like so many other pop stars) just lightly kissed and delivered with grace. Her uptempo numbers became more listenable and energetic. Emma was ready to dance.

pictured above from left: Jennifer Saunders (Edina), Emma, Joanna Lumley (Patsy)

She further stripped away her Spice Girl image by showing off her acting chops, guest starring as herself in the 5th series of amazing Brit comedy show "Absolutely Fabulous". Slaps, insults and cheekiness abound she stole scenes in a hilarious turn as Edina's (Jennifer Saunder's) latest celebrity client.

Now Emma is back in the recording studio working on her third solo album which is scheduled for release in early to late fall. Can't wait to see what direction she is choosing on this one. Her manager Simon Fuller is also working on creating a tv series centered around her.

Victoria Beckham News

Since I'm on a jaunt down memory lane (with All Saints news and all), let's see what some of the members of our other favorite girl group are up to these days. Starting with Victoria "Posh Spice" Beckham.

Victoria Beckham is to star in her own fashion reality TV show in America. It is rumored to be a cross between hit shows Project Runway and America's Next Top Model. The show will most likely also promote Victoria's personal fashion line VB Fashions for fashion label Rock And Republic. The former Spice Girl decided to turn to the world of fashion after a few failed attempts to hit it big as a solo artist. Beckham's manager Simon Fuller, who had a big part in creating the initial success of the very popular 90's girl group, has been in talks with two major US networks to get the show on the air.

Ms. Beckham, ever the fashionista, has also got a new book coming out entitled "That Extra Half An Inch" which will be released October 30th. Posh has described her book as "the definitive girls guide to looking and feeling the best that you can". The glossy coffee table book reveals what clothes she absolutely adores, and of course, what she would not be caught dead in. Sounds like a bitch fest/best seller.

As if that weren't enough, Victoria's limited edition personal line of sunglasses, which were on sale at posh London department store Harrods, flew off the shelves when unveiled in July. The specs, which cost up to $500 Canadian, sold out in minutes, there is now a waiting list for the new batch which should be available in September. Victoria stated "I've worked hard to create a range that is reminiscent of my favorite female style icons from the 50's, 60's and 70's whilst combining a modern and sleek attitude."

Finally, after what seems to be a successful foray into the men's cologne business for husband David (sex on legs) Beckham, the couple has worked on a joint venture of "his" and "hers" fragrances to be titled "Intimately Beckham". Now people can look, dress, and smell like the lady herself. All you have to do is throw up until you weigh 85 lbs. and the transformation will be complete.

The Girls Reunite

Calm down people, I'm not dwelling on another Spice Girls reunion rumor (although I could, there have been twenty a day since they split), I am talking about All Saints (and this is a fact). On January 24th of this year it was announced that the girl group best known for hits like "I Know Where It's At", "Never Ever" and "Pure Shores", has reunited and signed a deal with Parlophone records. They are due to release their third studio album as early as November of this year.

The Girls have all enjoyed moderate solo success since the group split in 2001. Melanie Blatt released a few lukewarm singles which never culminated in a full album release, Shaznay Lewis, said to have been the driving force behind the group due to the fact she was responsible for penning most of their hit songs, released a solo record in 2004 called "Open" which went to # 22 on the UK charts, and also played in several films including "Bend It Like Beckham" with Keira Knightly. Perhaps the most successful of the girls though, were sisters Nicky and Natalie Appleton. Forming their own duo simply called "Appleton", in 2002 the girls first single "Fantasy" reached #2 in the UK charts, and their subsequent album "Everything's Eventual" which entered the charts at #9, went gold after two months of it's release.

Let's hope that the group will have similar (if not better) success with it's new endeavors. Welcome Back.

Natalie To Star In Independent Film

Natalie Imbruglia is set to star in the independent Australian film "Elise". The film, based on the novel "Closed for Winter" by Georgia Blain, will feature Natalie in the title role of character Elise Silverton. Shooting is expected to begin this month in Adelaide, Australia with director James Bogle. On the music front (because we all know how much I love her music), I'm happy to report that Natalie is also working on her 4th studio album which she hopes to release in early 2007. Word has it she is collaborating with Dan Wilson, lead guitarist and vocalist for the band Semisonic who most recently worked with the Dixie Chicks on their latest release "Taking The Long Way".

Back to the acting news. Perhaps best known in the acting world for her role as Beth on the top-rated Australian soap-opera Neighbours, which seems to turn out a lot of pop stars (Kylie, Delta Goodrem, Jason Donovan etc.), Natalie only made her big screen debut in 2003 in the film "Johnny English", starring opposite the always hysterical Rowan Atkinson. Plus, she still continues to be one of the top faces of beauty product empire L' Oreal.

Her latest album "Counting Down The Days" (one of my favorite albums of 2005) is available in stores now, if you don't have it, and you love well-written pop albums (of which there are so few these days), go buy it. It's definitely a must have.

Future Sex/Love Sounds Cover

I know I'm not the only one who is intrigued by the first single off of Justin Timberlake's new album (to be released September 12th), the distorted voice, the electro-beats, Timbaland encouraging us to "get our sexy on" (whatever), and the validation of my long standing theory that Justin is into Kink. However, this was not the album cover I had envisioned for an album entitled Future Sex/Love Sounds. I thought it would be Justin, half naked in a harness, holding a synthesizer while Lance Bass is about to get militant with a whip..........Anybody? Instead, I have Justin in a suit and tie, kicking the shit out of a disco ball. What the hell am I supposed to do with that? It must have been Cameron's bright idea. Give your audience what they want Justin.

Even one of these would have been better. It'll grow on me (sigh).

Twin Ignorance

Joy and anticipation ran amuck in my veins yesterday morning. As I woke up at 7 am in order to catch the performance by Deborah Gibson and Jordan Knight on Good Morning America, I had to sit through a slew of news stories to ultimately reach my final destination. One of which soured my mood greatly. Featured within the barrage of information that was for the most part light-hearted ("Which University campuses have the best dorms", and "How many calories are there in a typical smoothie?" things like that), there was a story about these two little teenage twin girls named Lamb and Lynx Gaede. Pretty, blonde, blue eyed, white nationalists who send the message of racism and white supremacy through cute little bubble-gum pop songs to the youth of America. As you can imagine, I was positively gob-smacked to see the youth of America in such a horrendous light. The twins, who already have two albums out under the name "Prussian Blue" (what fucking record label is allowing this bullshit?) have been performing songs about white nationalism before all-white crowds since the age of 9. When asked in the interview their views on Adolph Hitler, the girls responded "I think he had a lot of good ideas, he wanted to preserve his race". When the interviewer responded "He had six million Jews executed!" the girls naively responded "I think that's an exaggeration, I hardly believe there were even that many Jews alive back then." Yes, I was as shocked and appalled as you probably are right now. I find it extremely aggravating when people try to deny the fact that the Holocaust happened. Where the hell did those concentration camps come from then you stupid fuckers? They don't just pop up like Wal-Marts. Now you're all wondering where the hell are they learning all this bullocks? Their white nationalist (stay at home and teach her kids fun little party games like "Dance around the Swastika", which I didn't make up, they actually play this game) mother, April can be blamed for that. Being as smart as to home school her girls so their brainwashing doesn't short circuit, she defends her choices by saying "I'm going to give them my opinion, just like any parent would."

What I hope is that these girls will break free of their mother, go to proper school, learn what their doing is completely ignorant and irresponsible, and make up for it in an amazing way. For now though, if you see them...run!!!!

The Adventures of MIMI in Toronto

When in doubt, hit a high "C" note and everything will work out fine. That seemed to be Mariah Carey's motto for the opening numbers to her Adventures of Mimi concert last Sunday August 13th at the Air Canada Centre. Hitting the stage after (what I found to be) a truly annoying opening act (Sean Paul), in a pair of black booty shorts, a sparkly black sports bra, and transparent black cape, the five octave songbird seemed to have a little trouble hitting the second and third octaves, and oddly made up for it by singing songs such as "It's Like That", "My All", and "Shake It Off", in what seemed to be completely different keys, and hitting a lot of high "C's" which of course made the crowd go crazy. Now, someone who was not familiar with seeing Mariah in concert may have been disappointed by this sort of fiasco. But those of us who had witnessed this strange behaviour before knew that it takes her about four songs to warm up her voice, and then....watch out. This wound up being the case once again. After completing the first group of songs, and retaking the stage in a sleek (backless) yellow gown, Mariah soared into what would be two of the standout songs of the night, power ballads "Vision of Love" , which started off a bit out of sorts with her forgetting the first line and then stopping the song altogether due to a small hole in the stage "the size of a stiletto heel" (as she wittily pointed out) but then continued from the start once the hole was patched with duct tape, and "Fly Like A Bird" undoubtedly the nights best number, which went off without a hitch.

Mariah has always been seen as a diva in the eyes of the public. But let me ask you, do you think you would ever see Diva's such as Diana Ross or Whitney Houston, walking through the crowd during one of their concerts? Of course not (they can't walk period). Mariah does however, she has quite a special connection with her audience that you don't see with a lot of performers of her magnitude, it really shatters that image of her sitting on a throne, eating grapes, and being fanned by P. Diddy and Fiddy Cent (she even gave longtime backup singer Trey Lorenz some personal stage time to promote his new album. Now, who the hell does that?) Anyhow, the evening was capped off by numbers such as "Don't Forget About Us", "Hero", and "Make It Happen", which brought to the stage a 32 member gospel choir, to finally tear the roof off the fucker.

To say it was perfection would be a stretch. An oddly placed dj which spun early hits from Salt N' Pepa's "Push It" to Naughty By Nature's "O.P.P." during a couple of her wardrobe changes was...well frankly a bizarre and ultimately pointless choice of distraction (that's what you have backup dancers for Mariah). While on the subject of dancing, watching Mariah try to bust a move (the few times that she actually did) was sort of like a car wreck (disasterous, yet funny because it's not happening to you), and certain members of the audience who plucked my nerves some, including one young gentleman who was the spitting image of Corky from that show "Life Goes On" from back in the day (we all know who I'm talking about), sitting right next to me. Honestly I'm not sure what was wrong with this guy but he for sure had a little mental retardation....and when I say retarded I mean they can do anything [:).

So all in all I would give the performance 4 out of 5 stars. Flashy and Fun, with a little "huh?", and "Oh my Lord!" (take a moment).

For Christine

Jabberwocky

'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves Did gyre and gimble in the wabe: All mimsy were the borogoves, And the mome raths outgrabe. 'Beware the Jabberwock, my son! The jaws that bite, the claws that catch! Beware the Jubjub bird, and shunThe frumious Bandersnatch! 'He took his vorpal sword in hand: Long time the manxome foe he sought -- So rested he by the Tumtum tree, And stood a while in thought. And, as in uffish thought he stood, The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame, Came whiffling through the tulgey wood, And burbled as it came! One two! One two! And through and through The vorpal blade went snicker-snack! He left it dead, and with its head He went galumphing back. 'And hast thou slain the Jabberwock? Come to my arms, my beamish boy! Oh frabjous day! Callooh! Callay! 'He chortled in his joy. 'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves Did gyre and gimble in the wabe: All mimsy were the borogoves, And the mome raths outgrabe. Lewis Carroll

Miss you too. :)

Sufjan / Dean

I just felt like doing a little experiment. There is a picture of Sufjan Stevens in which he is standing outside the window of a bookstore in New York City called Sufi Books. My friend Dean recently (well, a few months ago anyway) visited The Big Apple, and just happened to stumble along the same bookstore (much to his delight). Let's put them side by side and gasp at the similarities shall we? Now, Dean's was taken at night, and Sufjans was taken during the day, so we don't really get the same effect, but here goes...

Uncanny huh? Oh well, maybe they look nothing alike...but I was required to try (Dean's gonna kill me). Buy Sufjan's new album The Avalanche: Outtakes and Extras from the Illinois album at a store near you. Is that a shameless plug I smell? Heavens....How wrong of me!

Donna De Lory: The Lover & The Beloved

Alrighty! Here was the scene. My friend Dilma and I were going to see the film X-Men 3: The Last Stand one night, however we had noticed after going out to dinner (quite a few hours before the movie was expected to begin) that we still had two hours to pass before we actually had to be at the theatre. So, naturally, we decided to go shopping (like ya do). Now while on our little excursion we stopped into a Chapters and what should catch my eye? An album by Donna De Lory. If you are a Madonna fan, you will no doubt recognize her as Madonna's long-time backup singer and dancer. I was aware of the fact that she was a recording artist in her own right (I even have her self-titled pop album from 1992, which I found while working at a CD store which happened to sell used CD's), what I did not anticipate was to find an entire rack in Chapters filled with her CD The Lover and The Beloved. Shocked and ecstatically happy I purchased said CD, went to the movie, and listened to it blissfully on the way home. It is a gorgeous combination of Sanskrit and English chants, soothing instrumentation, and Donna's silky sweet voice permeating throughout. Perfect listening material if you practice yoga, or simply want to relax. As an added bonus, Niki Harris, fellow backup singer and partner in crime on Madonna's tours from the Who's That Girl tour to The Drowned World tour, lends her vocal support to the track "Govinda Jaya Jaya". ***** out of *****. If you are a stress freak, buy this album, burn some incense, and find your bliss.
