Darling Print Ad

My heavens, Kylie Minogue is looking gorgeous in the new print ad for her fragrance, Darling. The fragrance reportedly achieved record sales in it's first day of availability in her native Australia, having the most successful launch of a fragrance at Myers Department Store (Australia's largest retailer).

In other news, Channel 4 in the UK will be broadcasting Kylie's Showgirl Homecoming Tour in early 2007 (so let's cross our fingers for a new concert DVD to add to our collections on this side of the pond). The new layout for the show includes most of the original set list with a few new elements IE. adding the song Burning Up from her Fever album with a slight Madonna tribute thrown into the mix of it (the spoken word section of Vogue), and her newest song White Diamond, which will hopefully be included on the new album.

Finally, her 2007 calendar is the biggest selling calendar from a female artist so far in the UK. This is the fifth year in a row that Kylie has topped the calendar sales charts.

You Smell Lovely, Darling!

Kylie Minogue has really been making up for lost time the past few months. Releasing her first children's book, working on material for a new album, rehearsing for her Showgirl Homecoming Tour, and now she has ventured (like so many celebrities before her) into the fragrance industry. She very recently released her first fragrance called "Darling" or "Darl" as it might be called in her native Australia (she admits the Aussies won't be able to resist shortening the word). When asked to comment on the name Kylie stated,

"It's such a warm word. I use it with my friends, my mother uses it with me, and it's a little bit showbiz."

That it is. She has confessed to receiving help from her longtime boyfriend Olivier Martinez in helping to design the perfume. If it makes a man like that happy, I'll buy a gallon of it.

Showgirl Princess

Madonna has got a bit of competition in the kiddie book department. Kylie Minogue has just released her first Puffin Books publication called "The Showgirl Princess". The lavish picture book which tells a child like tale of how Kylie transforms into the Showgirl for her concert performances, was written while she was undergoing treatment for breast cancer.

It is said that the pictures featured inside are part photographs (taken by Kylie's long time visual coordinator William Baker) and part animation. Her long time boyfriend Olivier's dog Sheeba also makes a featured appearance in the book. How cute. Sounds like a perfect stocking stuffer for the kids this holiday season (or any Kylie fan for that matter). "All that glitters and sparkles is what this book is about." Kylie has stated.

While on the subject, Kylie's 2007 calender is also available for purchase. I seem to get a Kylie calender every year (as well as a Marilyn calendar), so I look forward to the monthly pictures to come. If the cover photo is any indication, the rest of the calendar will be gorgeous.

The Showgirl Tour commences on November 11th.

The Showgirl Returns

I'm sitting here with Kylie Minogue's Showgirl Tour DVD blaring in the background, wondering what I'm going to write my first official blog about, and it hits me...Duh, write about Kylie's triumphant return to the stage. After a year of treatment since being diagnosed with breast cancer last May, the Impossible (to defeat apparently) Princess is heading back out to wrap up the Australian leg of her tour. It promises to be quite an emotional home-coming for Kylie who received most of her treatment in Paris while staying with her (very handsome) beau Olivier Martinez. The shows will start in her hometown of Sydney on November 11th, wrap up in Melbourne on December 17th, and then it's off to the UK to do a six night engagement at Wembley Stadium in January 2007 (of which the first two nights announced sold out in an astounding six minutes).

Kylie is by far one of the most (seemingly) genuine stars in the public eye today. Always beautiful, upbeat, positive, sparkly eyed and ready to give to her audience. She (and her music) just make you want to have a good time. Someday she will bring one of her tours to Canada and I will be a happy boy. Until then, Welcome Back Showgirl! I missed you.
