This past year has been quite the successful year for singer/songwriter Lisa Loeb, from frivolous news about her creating and selling her own line of her stylish eye glasses (which have been synonymous with her image since she hit it big in the music world with her 1994 classic "Stay (I Missed You)"), to perhaps more exciting news for her personal life, marrying music coordinator for the Conan O'Brien Show, Rory Hershkovitz, in January 2009 and giving birth to the couples first child, a daughter they named Lyla Rose Loeb Hershkovitz in November of last year.

Back in 2005, Lisa had her own reality show entitled "Number 1 Single", which gave a look at her life trying to find a nice Jewish man to fall in love with and have a family. The show ended after one season and she had not yet met the man of her dreams, but now she has. Mazel Tov to the happy couple.

Above is a live performance of her song "Truthfully" from her 1997 album "Firecracker" that she did at a New York City gig back in 2008. Lisa still remains the only Artist ever, to have a number 1 single on the billboard Hot 100 chart before being signed to a record label. Congrats on that too girl.

Much like Lady Gaga, I find P!NK to be one of those few musicians whom I can watch endlessly in interviews because she is so fascinating and ballsy. The thing I especially like about her is that she doesn't put up a false demeanor (I think Gaga sometimes does), she sits there and speaks up and is honest no matter the situation and I just love that. Kathy Griffin: The View (Interview June 2010)

OMG! This may be the best thing I've seen on a talk show in awhile. Self proclaimed D-list celebrity and outrageous stand up comic, Kathy Griffin, was on the talk show "The View" this morning to promote the season premiere of the 6th season of her Emmy Winning reality show "My Life On The D-List". While having fun chatting it up with co-hosts Joy Behar, Sherri Sheppard (both comics themselves) and some chicky from One Life to Live who was filling in as special guest host, it seemed as if the fourth co-host, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, was in a tiff and not really open to giving Kathy so much as the time of day.

Being as rude as to literally yawn and stretch while Griffin was talking, Hasselbeck who is famously known for being a right winged "dingbat" (a polite way of saying Uptight Republican Bitch) shot a line at Kathy that basically implied that she wasn't funny and proved her disdain for her. Quick witted Kathy naturally fired back no problem saying "This moment is what I live for, so Bring It!", which means of course we can all expect to be hearing about this incident in her next set of stand up shows. Kathy also tweeted about it this afternoon, stating "The most unlikely person just MADE MY DAY. Please tell me you saw The View today." Take a look at the interview below and witness Hasselbeck's unprofessionality as a talk show host (and the birth of a new act for Kathy). I really think Elisabeth should be reprimanded for her behaviour.

True Blood: Ultimate Fan Experience Cast Interview

Based on the collection of novels by Charlaine Harris and set in the fictional town of Bon Temps, Louisiana, the HBO series "True Blood" centres around Sookie Stackhouse (played by Oscar winner Anna Paquin) a telepathic waitress who finds herself falling in love with a vampire named Bill Compton (played by Paquin's real life fiancee, Stephen Moyer) and dealing with the difficulties that seems to come with that relationship from both sides of society (Vamps & Humans).

Much has happened in the series in it's short 2 season run, and with the premiere of the third season airing only two days ago, it looks like we're in for another wild ride with the addition of new supernatural beings and more relationships starting and being torn apart. Before the premiere episode, the principal cast sat down for a Q&A of fan questions and revealed their feelings on their characters and where the show has been thus far. Take a look.

Rufus Wainwright: Prima Donna News + The Art Teacher (Live)

I really shouldn't have been surprised by the news that singer/songwriter Rufus Wainwright had written and composed his very own Opera, because his music (despite being labelled a brand of folk/pop) has always slightly bordered on classical. But still I found myself quite impressed this evening as I tuned in to watch his documentary "Prima Donna: The Story Of An Opera" which chronicled his journey from conception to the opening night in Manchester, England.

After performing Prima Donna in Manchester he moved his production to the London stage, and now the production has returned to his native land and is being presented as part of Toronto's Luminato Festival.

The Opera is about a day in the life of an aging opera singer, anxiously preparing for her comeback in 1970s Paris, who falls in love with a journalist. Watch the interview above to get the scoop from Rufus, and below I have included one of my favorite Rufus songs (among many) just because I think his music is mesmerizing.

Court Yard Hounds: Interview + The Coast (Live On The View)

Two thirds of the Grammy winning country group "The Dixie Chicks", sisters Emily Robison and Martie Maguire, have formed a country folk duo and recently released their first album under the monocre "Court Yard Hounds". The sister act has confirmed that they are in no way leaving the Dixie Chicks for good. In fact, the chicks will be appearing as special guests on The Eagles summer tour while Court Yard Hounds will also be making frequent appearances on the Lilith Fair tour. They stated that fellow Chick and lead vocalist, Natalie Maines, was not quite ready to return to the recording studio to record their fifth album but the sisters were itching to perform once again. They decided to record some of the songs that Emily had been writing on her own over the past few years during her divorce from husband Charlie Robison, and thus, the Court Yard Hounds were born.

The album features Emily on lead vocals while sister Martie provides harmonies and of course spices up the tracks with her amazing fiddle playing. Robison's voice is a bit reminiscent of one of their mentors, Sheryl Crow, and the album is a stunning achievement for their first time out the gate.

En Vogue: The Return Of The Funky Divas (A&E Private Sessions)

Awhile back (I mean years ago, when I first started writing this blog) I wrote about the last time the original girls of En Vogue tried to reunite, which ultimately led to only two live tv performances, a hand full of concerts and a guest spot on the song "So What The Fuss" by Stevie Wonder. It wasn't long into that reunion before Dawn Robinson left the group for the second time due to differences with management and was replaced by Rhona Bennett. But now it's OFFICIAL!!!!! The four original members of the group, Cindy Herron Braggs, Terry Ellis, Dawn Robinson, and Maxine Jones are working on new music and their record label, "Rufftown Records", has confirmed that as of right now their first single from their new album (for which a title has not been shared with the public) will be released on September 1st of this year and the group has confirmed their plans for a world tour to support the album. I got permission from my boyfriend to include one of his performance video's on my blog since nobody looks or even really remembers that I have a blog (I write the posts as if thousands of people are reading them, but lets face it, it's just me) and I have to say that out of all of his video's, this has to be my favorite one that I've watched so far. Madonna: Celebration (Music Video) + Lola News

Though I eventually began to like Madonna's last studio album "Hard Candy" (which I initially hated and still do to a certain extent), I was more pleased with the couple of new tracks that accompanied her latest greatest Hits collection "Celebration", including the title track above. I just miss her ballads. Is it too much to ask of her to throw in a few ballads now and then? Anyways, the video is very simple and basic and features not only her latest boytoy Jesus Luz (as the DJ), but also her now 13 year old daughter, Lourdes (aka Lola) who performs an impressive backflip near the end of the video when amongst the group of dancers.

Lola has been making a bit of a name for herself in the past few months. Not only have she and her Mother designed a line of clothing called "Material Girl" for Macy's department store, but she will also be featured (by herself) as the cover girl for the July issue of European Magazine "Quality". Well done!

Lola had previously been offered work in the public eye when she was offered the role of Lily in the big screen adaptation of the Sue Monk Kidd novel "The Secret Life Of Bees". She declined the role at the time because Madonna felt she was still too young. The role went instead to Dakota Fanning. Great film!

She & Him: In The Sun (Music Video)

Actress Zooey Deschanel and her good pal and musical collaborator M. Ward have teamed up once again to bring us their new collection "Volume 2", after the stunning success of their first release (appropriately titled) "Volume 1". The album is another great blend of 50's and 60's inspired folk pop tracks with a few great cover songs thrown in for good measure.

Lady Gaga: Alejandro (Music Video)

Just released today, this is the brand new video from our beloved Lady Gaga. Comparisons have already been made to some of Madonna's earlier works but that is of course to be expected. The video (directed by photographer Steven Klein, who has also worked closely with our dear Queen of Pop), is a stark contrast from the flashy and colorful world of her previous video for Telephone. Sepia tones, homoerotic and even religious imagery are what you have to look forward to when you watch this militaristic romp which Gaga explains is about the,

“purity of my friendships with my gay friends, and how I’ve been unable to find that with a straight man in my life. It’s a celebration and an admiration of gay love—it confesses my envy of the courage and bravery they require to be together. In the video I’m pining for the love of my gay friends—but they just don’t want me to be with them.”

Alanis Morissette: Torch (Live) & Marriage News

It's hard for me to choose a favorite song from Alanis' recent album "Flavors Of Entanglement" because it is so astonishingly brilliant, but I will say that from the first moment my ears met the song "Torch" I was madly in love and heartbroken at the same time. She so perfectly describes the sadness and defeat one feels when dealing with a break up.

This record was written after her very public break up with actor Ryan Reynolds, but the phoenix rose out of the ashes of that failed relationship and this past May 22nd, Alanis married her boyfriend of seven months, DJ Mario "Souleye" Treadway, in a small ceremony at their home in LA surrounded by their family. Congratulations Alanis! I can't wait to hear an album from the married perspective.

Lady Gaga: Bad Romance (Music Video)

Like many others, I am completely in love with Lady Gaga. Her music, her style, her video's, her attitude, her connection with her fans, her support of the Gay Community, her live performances, everything she does is done with such gusto and after only 2 albums she is within the top 10 artists that I find endlessly entertaining and completely fascinating. I'm amazed at how her performances seem to elevate to a new visual plateau each time she does a television performance, and that her musical talent is sincere and genuine.

As luck would have it, I am fortunate enough to be attending The Monster Ball with 3 of my friends when it stops in Toronto on July 12th. I was shocked when the tickets for the first show in Toronto (July 11th) sold out in about 20 seconds (at least it seemed that way). But luckily I snagged 4 for the 12th. I count myself amongst her "Little Monsters" and though I may not dress for the occassion (simply because I can't afford to buy anything new) when it arrives, my personality will show my Monster inside, trust!

So here's the Bad Romance video, because I love it to death, and the Alejandro video is rumored to be premiering tomorrow so I hope it will be just as stunning.

Cyndi Lauper: Just Your Fool (Live)

The amazing Cyndi Lauper is releasing her 11th studio album on June 22nd. Sarah McLachlan: Forgiveness (Live & Acoustic Video)

This morning, myself and many other facebook patrons were allowed access to listen to the new Sarah McLachlan album "Laws Of Illusion" in it's entirety. The album will be released officially on June 15th, and it is a beautiful peace of work.

I have to say as a fan, it is so much better than her last studio album (2003's Afterglow) on a sonic level. Afterglow, as nice of an album as it was, was pretty much a big snooze. Each song was nice on it's own, but 10 breathy ballads all in a row, with only 1 lively number makes for a kind of boring listen.

Laws of Illusion is a nice balance of upbeat/midtempo tracks and the gorgeous ballads that are her staple and I am eager to hear the tracks from this album at Lilith Fair next month. Well worth the 7 year wait. The song shown above was one of the 5 songs that perked my ear up upon first listen, of course the album version is fuller

Janet Jackson: Make Me (Music Video)

I should have added this when it first came out because I'm so in love with this song, but I've been ignoring all of my blogs for quite awhile, but I've had a bit of time today so it's a good chance to add some things that have interested me in the past little while.

So, this song was the new single that Janet added to her latest Greatest Hits album, Number 1's, which featured 33 #1 hits (both internationally and domestically) and landed itself in the #1 position on the Billboard US Dance Club Chart.

I don't really understand why her past few albums haven't done as well as others. I get that some people were offended by the whole Superbowl incident, but really, people must be over that by now. She hasn't successfully completed a world tour since the All For You tour and some of her lead singles have been clunkers but I think if this song had been the lead track from a studio album it would have put her back on top. C'mon, Michael's gone! You're the only Jackson we have left to look forward to. Lately she has been focusing her career on acting more. She recently reprised her role as Patricia in Tyler Perry's "Why Did I Get Married, Too?", which spawned the hit ballad "Nothing" (which will be added to this site next) and is currently filming another Tyler Perry helmed film entitled "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Is Enuf".

Robyn: Dancing On My Own (Music Video)

One Pop Diva who always seems to get it right, is the one named wonder from Sweden, Robyn. She's one of very few pop artists that manages to keep producing perfect pop dance gems time after time that are so infectious and classic that it keeps you in a summer state of mind all year round.

Her latest EP, "Body Talk Pt. 1", the first in a collection of three cd's that will all be released this year, will be released officially in North America on June 15th (of course I already have it) and as I suspected from the lead off single seen above, she has indeed achieved greatness (in my mind) once more.

Christina Aguilera: Not Myself Tonight (Music Video)

Alright, let's talk a little bit about Christina. Firstly, her 4th full length studio album, Bionic, is being released in stores tomorrow, but I think most of her fans have already heard it by now. It's a bit of a far cry from the brilliance of her last album, 2006's Back To Basics, but it does have an intoxicating energy to it that is refreshing and will make for good blastings during long summer drives. Where Back To Basics threw us into the sounds of the past with Bossanova beats and jazz chords coming out the whazoo, Bionic takes us into a raunchy futuristic dance club, where synthesizers and harsh dance beats rule supreme, and of course Christina's infamously powerful pipes top it all off. Of course she still brings it on home with the soaring ballads that have become a benchmark in her career, but some of the lyrics on this album are just plain lazy (fun, but lazy).

Now, speaking of lazy, let's discuss the video above for the lead single "Not Myself Tonight". As much as I love the song (and as much as I think she looks incredibly fierce), the video really is just a mixture of scene's stolen from the music video's of other female artists, particularly Madonna. Now, I realize that it's hard for most female artists not to mimic the likes of Madonna from time to time, because she really has seen and done it all at one point or another, but to outright copy images from videos like "Express Yourself", "Human Nature", and "Like A Prayer" is completely ludicrous. She even manages to steal visuals from Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance", and Geri Halliwell's "It's Raining Men" video's. What is that about?

If it was her intention to copy these works as a sort of homage to these women and I'm just missing the irony, then I will be the first to apologize for my opinion, but I doubt that it was. But, like I said, it works for what it is, and she does look fierce. I just expected a little bit more creativity from her.

Donna De Lory: Praying For Love (Music Video)

It's no secret that I find Donna De Lory's music extremely heavenly and delightful, and now I'm happy to report that I will be experiencing it first hand on July 24th. Donna has recently been added to the stunning line up of performers that will be playing at the Toronto stop of this summer's Lilith Fair tour.

When I first saw that Donna (longtime back-up performer for Madonna) was going to be performing with Lilith Fair, she was only signed up to perform at the San Diego show (which makes sense since she lives in California and has two young girls) and I thought to myself, wouldn't it be wild if she came to Toronto? But that will never happen. If she does choose to do another few shows, they'll probably be in places in the US, close to the California area. Or so I thought. By the time I had bought my ticket for the Toronto show she still hadn't been added to any other shows but I was excited for the list of performers who were signed for that lineup.

Now, about a week ago, I was reading an article about Sarah McLachlan and it mentioned the lineups of each of the Canadian dates for Lilith, and Donna's name appeared in the list of performers for TO. I thought, this surely has to be a misprint so I checked her official website and the official Lilith website and it's Frickin' True!

Long story short (too late), I can't wait to see her performing her own music live for the first time and above is a video for her single "Praying For Love" from her 1993 self-titled debut album. Love it!

RuPaul: Covergirl (Put The Bass In Your Walk) Music Video

Okay, I've been obsessed lately over a few shows, one of them being the new reality show RuPaul's Drag Race. 9 Queens out of thousands across America who applied were chosen to compete against each other to become the next great Drag star.

At the same time, Ru was busy preparing to release her new album "Champion" and the final three contestants, Bebe Zahara Benet, Nina Flowers, and Rebecca Glasscock, are all featured in the video for Ru's first single Covergirl (Put The Bass In Your Walk). The final challenge of the show was for all three girls to write their own rap for the bridge of the song and the winner's rap would be included in the video and on the single version of the song. Bebe was the winner.

I can't wait for season 2.

Tori Amos: Maybe California (Music Video)

Hold on to your hats ladies and gentlemen, but Tori has just released another song (in video form) from her album "Abnormally Attracted To Sin" which will be released May 19 as I've mentioned 100 times before.

The new song is the gorgeous ballad "Maybe California" which Tori has released as an early Mother's Day present to her fanbase. The lyrics of the song seem to describe a relationship between one Mother who is trying to talk another Mother out of committing suicide. Fans are already debating if Tori's character in the video actually jumps off the cliff in the end.

Tori Amos: Welcome To England

Today, Tori Amos debuted the video for her new single "Welcome To England" via her official website and Yahoo Music! The track is the first single from her forthcoming 10th studio album "Abnormally Attracted To Sin" which will be released in stores May 19th.

I'm happy that Tori has decided not to abandon the Doll Posse alter egos she assumed for her last album and had Posse member Isabel make an appearance in the video.

O Happy Day! Tori Amos has revealed the tracklisting and the beautiful cover for her forthcoming 10th studio album "Abnormally Attracted To Sin" courtesy of her official website. Also she recently did an interview with Spinner.com and I am bringing the entire interview your way. Here we go.

What was the impetus behind this new collection?

I'm drawn to questioning what traditional authorities have defined sin to be. As a minister's daughter, I've been exposed to the traditional belief system. [Sin] has been used to shame and control people. If you're controlled by a religious structure, then you're going to have a very different outlook on life and what you're open to than if you're not controlled by these old, crumbling concepts.

The new album, 'Abnormally Attracted to Sin,' takes its name from a line in 'Guys and Dolls,' said by the character Sarah Brown. Do you feel a kinship with her in any way?

No, because I'm not torn by my religious beliefs. A lot of the problems we have right now in our world are because of intolerance dictated by the big religions.

Do you feel it's your duty or obligation to expose these truths in your work?

I find that right now, in this turbulent time where there's so much strife all around the world, there is an opportunity for religions to open their doors and their hearts -- to become compassionate for someone else's beliefs instead of intolerant. That's always really disappointed me about people who talk about being religious, and yet they're the most judgemental, usually. Right now, we're at war, and I wrote quite a lot of this album while I was on tour last time. I traveled the world, I played in Israel, I traveled through countries where the major religions exist -- and the one thing that I started to do more than ever was to really ask questions about "What do I believe in?" Traveling and seeing how women see themselves in different cultures ... how the community thinks of them becomes so important for some of them, more than how than how they even feel about themselves. And some of them are dying -- they're dying in their lives. You might be approved of in your community, but your heart is completely breaking. And I don't find that a tolerant society -- that is not the compassionate Christ path to me. I began to see that kindness and tolerance were not found in institutions, but found in individuals who seemed to be breaking away from the old patriarchal viewpoint.

Did you have a similar experience growing up in a Christian household?

I was brought up in a home that was ... we were brought up in the Christian doctrine, and that's just what it was. We believed in it, and I think the question is: What is that doctrine? Because it's not about the open heart. Maybe it takes times like we have right now, times of so much upheaval, where you allow yourself to really find out what it is that you feel about something. My daughter has all kinds of questions all the time, and if she were brought up in a less tolerant household, she would be broken, no question about it. But she has a grandfather who was a Methodist minister and she has a part of her family who are very much practicing Christians, yet she loves them. But she is not interested if they agree with what she thinks because she is allowed to believe in what she wants.

One of the current arguments at large in America is whether or not gays should have the right to marry. Religion is often used in the argument against gay marriage. Why do you think that union is so threatening?

We go back to that word -- intolerance. That, to me, isn't what America ever was. It wasn't about telling another person how to live their life. I always said in a perfect world, you keep the Democrats out of your bank account and the Republicans out of your bedroom. But in life, why do you have to have anybody else in your bedroom if you're a consenting adult? That is the need people have right now, it seems, to dictate to another person how they should live there life. I find that the greatest sin of all. The record explores all kinds of feelings and depending on your state of mind, your set of circumstances could result in a very different outcome.

What can you tell me about the visuals that will be accompanying each of the songs on this album?

I'm calling them "vignettes" because it's more akin to a mini-film. This all started on tour last time, when we were filming the live shows. The director was putting together montages, and as I saw the montages, new music was already coming. I started to put the new music to the mini-films that were being made out on the road.

When I travel I get all kinds of ideas. I'm forced to see things that I wouldn't and question. When you asked me about 'Guys and Dolls,' I guess I was never a Bible-thumping Christian; I was always trying to question because I had so much religion in my upbringing. I was drawn to those people and those ideas that weren't accepted necessarily, and it's not because these ideas in reality are "evil" -- that's just the perception that's being given. The reality I was brought up in was, "Anything that doesn't work within the Christian doctrine is sinful." And that's a lot of stuff.

Just in time for my birthday, Deborah Gibson has released a new song and music video via her official website and youtube page. Here is the message to the fans that went along with the release of the song which indicates that a new album is definitely on the horizon.

Hey everyone! Looove the comments about “Already Gone” and appreciate the candor. I actually agree about the high chorus’s. In fact, my sister Michele used to say that about “Who Loves Ya Baby?”. She used to say “why do you have to sing so hiiiigh?”. It’s a weird thing because songs like to live in certain keys. They just sound best in certain keys. Then, I aim to meet the challenge. Yes - my voice thins out a bit on top and the newer tunes I just completed for the next album are indeed a bit lower - or, if they are high, the vocal is meatier. There are personal changes happening within me left and right and, lemme tell ya - I think I just did one of my raw-est vocals. I sang with total abandon and I’m so proud. Can’t wait for you to hear…… So, I’m learning and growing and appreciate the comments because when lots of people concur usually there is something to it!

I also was thinking about the next “pop” album being under the “pop” brand name of “Debbie”. I think it confuses overseas fans to say “Deborah” and may confuse everyone if I go back to “Debbie” but, my position on that would be “Deborah” serves me for artsier records and theater and this gal wants hits and the hitmaker is “Debbie”. I was even thinking about writing a toungue in cheek song about it, like “What’s in a Name?” Or, “Deborah, Debbie, Whatever!!!!”. Sometimes people say “Debbie…..oh, I mean Deborah” and I reply “yeah, both of us are here!” Ha! Lemme know your thoughts on the name!

And, keep the comments comin’…… Can’t wait ’til y’all see the video! Oh, and - one last thing……. There is a certain country music themed TV show (no one mention it by name! Keep it on the down low!) that mayyyy have expressed interest. Thoughts on that too? Since so many of you mentioned the country sound….. Ok - that’s all for now! This is a little piece of coverage about the new Lee Daniels film entitled Push which I cannot wait to see. Based on the Novel of the same name by Sapphire, the film stars Mo'Nique, Mariah Carey, Paula Patton, Lenny Kravitz and newcomer Gabourey Sidibe as the films lead character Precious.

The film has just won many of the top awards at the Sundance Film Festival including the special jury prize, the audience award, and the grand jury prize.

Here is a small synopsis of what the film is about.

Precious Jones (Gabourey Sidibe) is a high-school girl with nothing working in her favor. She is pregnant with her father’s child—for the second time. She can’t read or write, and her schoolmates tease her for being fat. Her home life is a horror, ruled by a mother (Mo’Nique) who keeps her imprisoned both emotionally and physically. Precious’s instincts tell her one thing: if she’s ever going to break from the chains of ignorance, she will have to dig deeply into her own resources. Along her journey, she comes across a teacher (played by Paula Patton) who helps her discover an alternative path in life, a concerned social worker (played by Mariah Carey) and a nurse (played by Lenny Kravitz) who shows her much kindness. Push is not a film wallowing in the stillness of depression; instead, it vibrates with the kind of energy derived only from anger and hope.

No word yet on when the film will be released, but as soon as I find out, I'm going.

Here is the brand spankin' new, full length trailer for the first chapter of the X-Men Origins movies starring my husband Hugh Jackman (what?). I'm assuming this is a franchise which will see some of our other favorite characters getting their own shot at the spotlight. As seen in the trailer, many other characters from the Marvel Universe make appearances in the film, including Gambit, Sabretooth, Silver Fox, The Blob, what looks to be a young Storm, and a girl who might possibly be Dazzler.

It's no secret how much I love the sitcom Blossom (I'm surprised it's not in re-runs it's such a great show) and I have been lucky enough (thanks to my brother) to have gotten the whole series on DVD.

This is without a doubt my favorite moment of Jenna Von Oy's character Six. It's from the episode "I Killed Chico Baranca" where Six has been stealing home appliances to sell at garage sales to earn extra money for clothes and she and Blossom are arrested for it. In this scene, Blossom's father has paid their bail and they are waiting for Six's mother Sharon to come and pick her up from their house. The results are hilarious. Take A Look.

I'm adding Jennifer Hudson's new video "Spotlight" to my blog because I really enjoy her as a singer and an actress and I was incredibly shocked to hear about the tragedies that have surrounded her family lately. Her Mother, Brother and young Nephew were all murdered within a week. I can't even imagine what her family is going through.
On a lighter note (please God, let there be one), her new movie which she co-stars in "The Secret Life Of Bees" with Dakota Fanning, Queen Latifah, and Alicia Keys, is one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. Looking back on it now, I should probably deem it a shameful moment in my life, but I don't. Back when I was, I think 13 but it could have been 14, I went on a trip to Alberta with my best friend and his parents. We went to every major city around the Alberta region, but there was one stop we made that we went to a specific natural history museum that had a little kids waiting area.

So while me and my friend were waiting for his parents we sat down and started looking through things in said waiting area. Among the things was an old She-Ra comic book. Having almost completely forgotten about She-Ra altogether my friend and I were stunned that this even existed. So what did I do? That's right! I stole it! I stole a She-Ra comic book from a Museum waiting area so we could look through it in the car and enjoy moments of nostalgia. I have no idea where that comic book is today, but I still enjoy that memory.

I generally don't like ambient music but her voice is so sweet and soothing that I really can't help but listen. This is the title song from Donna's latest studio album "Sky Is Open" (2006). The video was directed by her friend Nick Spanos and was shot in and around her house in California.

As mentioned, Donna has performed back up vocals for Madonna during every one of her tours from The Who's That Girl Tour (1987) up to The Confessions Tour (2006). Donna was not available to perform on Madonna's latest trek (2008's Sticky & Sweet Tour) due to conflicts with her own solo tour and the fact that she is expecting her second child this month. Madonna: Get Stupid

This past weekend I had a full weekend of Madonna, starting with attending a Madonna-thon style club night on Friday at a place called "Fly" and then by seeing Madonna's two shows of the Sticky & Sweet Tour in Toronto on both Saturday and Sunday nights.

Many things seemed wrong with the concert when I saw it on the Saturday night.

Number 1) I had forgotten my glasses at home, which perturbed me to no end, and if you've ever been to a Madonna concert before, you know that proper vision is almost as important as proper auditory skills (if not more important)to enjoying the show fully.

Number 2) The volume levels of the music were far too loud (making it almost unlistenable at times).

Number 3) Madonna's vocals weren't very listenable either. I've never thought or said that she was a great singer, but usually her vocals are substandard and hold up for an entire show, but they were terribly mediocre during this particular performance.
However, when I returned to the Air Canada Centre the following evening, it was like a whole new show. I had my glasses, the levels were at a proper listening level for a stadium show and her vocals seemed to be a bit stronger and I thought it was a fantastic show. Not her best by any stretch of the imagination (but that also comes along with my dislike for her latest album), but there were quite a few stand out moments that I thought were extremely cool and shreik worthy. Her performances of Like A Prayer, Vogue, Human Nature (with Britney on screen), Devil Wouldn't Recognize You, and You Must Love Me were some of the great highlights, as well as this universally conscious video interlude above, shown before the last group of songs.

Finally! It's taken 800 years or so but Britney seems to be back to her pre marriage/beating up paparazzi with umbrella's glory.

The new video for the first single from her coming sixth studio album "Circus" was released a couple of days ago and had received 1 million views during the first 24 hours of it being posted to youtube.
The video was shot back in September by director Joseph Khan who worked with Britney previously on her video's for Stronger (2000) and Toxic (2004), and features her in many guises from secretary to personal driver. The video has come under much scrutiny because of the nudity involved, but I really can't imagine why people are surprised. That's what Britney does people! She's an exhibitionist for crying out loud.

I personally love this video and I'm glad to have slutty Britney back. Circus will be released in stores December 2nd, coinciding with Britney's 27th birthday. Also her 90 minute documentary "For the Record" which chronicles her life from her meltdown to her return to music will air on MTV November 30th, two days before the release of the album.

Blindness: Movie Trailer

I'm very excited about this. The movie "Blindness", which I worked on as an extra for one day last summer is being released in theatres today.

Based upon the novel by José Saramago, The story takes place in an anonymous city where the citizens are being infected by a plague of Blindness, and the only way to contain the plague is to commit the infected citizens into a decommissioned sanitarium. Julianne Moore's character is the only one in the sanitarium who retains her sight. Chaos ensues among the patients when the food starts to dwindle and the living conditions become increasingly violent.

Much hubub has been made surrounding the release of this movie. The National Federation for the Blind is planning on picketing the film because they believe that the "movie portrays blind people as monsters." I don't personally think that the movie turns blind people into monsters. I think the reason for the depiction of monsterous acts in the film have more to do with the fact that the people are being confined against their own will. The same way that The Lord Of The Flies doesn't necessarily intentionally depict children as little monsters, but when you're in a desperate situation all reason escapes the mind. It's more of a take on society in general.
See for yourselves though. Go see the movie and look for me in the scene where the sanitarium is on fire. I doubt I'll be visible but it's exciting none the less. My friend Trish has a much larger part than me. She was an extra on the film for weeks.

The film is directed by Fernando Meirelles (City Of God, The Constant Gardener), and stars Julianne Moore, Mark Ruffalo, Danny Glover, Gael Garcia Bernal, and Sandra Oh. I saw all of them on set but Sandra.

Alanis Morissette: Not As We (Music Video)

Sex And The City: DVD Out Tomorrow

Yay! It's here, it's finally here! The Sex And The City Movie is being released on DVD tomorrow. This means I won't have to go see it in the theatres again (I saw it four times). Instead I can just curl up on the couch with my popcorn and watch anytime I want to.

The dvd is being released in two different formats, the theatrical release, and an extended edition which shows scenes not seen in the theatrical release. The other features are advertised in the commercial above (plus an audio-commentary by director Michael Patrick King not mentioned). This movie was one of the biggest blockbusters of the summer, earning $400,454,627 worldwide so far, thusly the release of the DVD deserved it's own Hollywood style DVD Release Party, which was held in New York last week with stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, and Cynthia Nixon all making appearances.

A Sequel to the movie is currently in talks with all involved, according to Michael Patrick. "When I finished [the first one], I didn’t have a thought in my head about a sequel. It doesn’t feel done to me at all. It feels like it generated a whole new burst of enthusiasm for these characters. I thought if I could come up with a really fun, worthy story it would certainly be a great chance to do it again."

Let's all look forward to seeing that. In the meantime, pick up your copy of The Sex And The City Movie tomorrow.

Sidenote: Sex And The City writer, Candace Bushnell, has admitted that she is working on a new book series which will be a prequel to SATC called "The Carrie Diaries", chronicaling Carrie Bradshaw's teenage years.

Janet Jackson: Good & Evil

It seems that Janet has a classic good vs. evil theme within her current Rock Witchu Tour. Here are two video's which are shown on the projection screens at different points in the show. The one above features a very angelic (yet futuristic) version of "Good Janet", and the one below features a very dark and twisted (Lord of The Rings-esque) version of "Evil Janet".

Graphic design company "Transport", who designed these two video's for the tour had this to say about their creations,

"Here's where some project explanation needs to happen. The whole show, which you should try to see if it comes near you, is based on a futuristic blade runner-like scenario, and there are forces battling for Janet's very soul. Our job was to turn Janet into good and evil versions of herself showing the struggle, but also be very techno-apocalyptic in style for both the good and evil characters...which according to Janet we nailed."

I can't wait to see the context of these two video's when I go see Janet at the Air Canada Centre next Sunday. Very exciting.

Björk: Dull Flame Of Desire (Music Video)

The Dull Flame Of Desire is the fifth single release from Björk's latest studio album "Volta" (2007) and is a duet with performer Antony Hegarty (Antony & The Johnson's). The lyrics are an english translation of a russian poem by Fyodor Tyutchev.

The video was directed by three different directors and as a result has three different looks to it which I think blend together beautifully. For her third single from Volta, "Innocence", Björk held a special contest on her website for one of her fans to create a video for the song. One winner was chosen but when it came to making the video for Dull Flame, she contacted three seperate directors who had entered the Innocence contest but didn't win.
"When we did the competition for "Innocence", where all the fans sent in videos, they sent in like 400 videos. There were some that I thought were amazing, made by really talented visual people who had maybe never done this before, but they didn't totally fit with the mood of "Innocence". So I contacted them and asked them if they would work together and do ["Dull Flame of Desire"]. In that song, we repeat the same verse over and over again. So I thought it would be interesting to have one verse presented by one director, and then the second by another director, and then the third by another. I had never done that before, and it was quite exciting.

We recorded our part in front of a green screen, and sent it by email to the directors, one in Japan, one in Spain, and one in Germany. They're collaborating via email. I don't know how long it will take. I was being pressured by my record company [to make videos] for the more up-tempo songs, but I have great love for "Dull Flame of Desire", and it was very emotionally special for me to make that with Antony. I thought this would be a good way of doing it."

Jay Brannan: A Death Waltz Live From Emanuel Vigeland Mausoleum In Olso

Jay continues to amaze and inspire, performing his song A Death Waltz live from Emanuel Vigeland's Mausoleum in Olso, Norway.

Emanuel Vigeland was a well-known artist in Norway and he originally had the Mausoleum made as a museum for his work to be held in before he ultimately chose for it to serve as his burial place. His ashes still remain above the entrance to the building. The artwork in the room is a depiction of human life from conception to death. Quite a few concerts have been held in this space.

Alanis Morissette: Flavors Of Entanglement

The seventh studio album from Alanis Morissette may have taken 4 years to manifest itself but I must say that it was truly worth the wait. The album is a masterfully written and performed collection of electro pop/rock songs which is being described (by the fans who have already heard it in it's entirety) as her best work since her 1998 release "Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie" and in some regards as her best work ever.

I personally have been describing the album as a combination of the very best elements of Jagged Little Pill, Supposed, and So Called Chaos. It has the hard edged rock sensibilities of Jagged, the reflective softness of Supposed, and the radio-friendly popiness of SCC all blended together with incredibly rich electro beats reminiscent of Bjork's earlier works (think Post and Homogenic) courtesy of producer Guy Sigworth. Alanis herself describes the album as "techno-sounding but organic."

Michelle Williams: Unexpected

The Divine Michelle Williams will be releasing her third solo album entitled Unexpected later this summer. I have been trying to add the hot new video for her first single "We Break The Dawn" all afternoon but everytime I do I keep getting a failed post message from youtube (assholes lol).

Michelle's last two albums (2002's Heart To Yours and 2004's Do You Know) which were primarily gospel music records did little if anything to establish her as a solo artist like her Destiny's Child counterparts, which is a shame because I always considered her to have the most unique (and therefore best) voice of the the group.

Lately she has found some success in the world of musical theatre. She replaced fellow R&B artist Toni Braxton in the title role of Elton John and Tim Rice's "Aida" on Broadway, and was most recently featured in the role of Shug Avery as part of the touring cast of the musical version of "The Color Purple".

Hopefully with her new Pop/R&B sound and Destiny's Child "Lose My Breath strut" in fine form (see the video) , she will finally begin to turn heads on the billboard charts as a solo artist.

The one take video starts with a nod to Jay's beginnings as a music artist through his youtube video recordings with him in an apartment with his guitar performing to the camera. The new Madonna video is finally here. Even though the song hasn't really grown on me yet I do think it is a good video. She and Justin are sticking to what works best for them (dancing), and she looks gorgeous, I'm not liking Justin's facial hair though.

I'm hoping the album has better songs than this. This just sounds like a cast off from one of Justin's albums.

What Are We Teaching Our Kids?

Okay I was seriously too tired and emotional to read about this today, I even started tearing up here at work and had to compose myself.

On February 12th of this year, a 15 year old boy named Lawrence "Larry" King was murdered at his school in Oxnard, California. A few weeks before the shooting which took his life Larry had admitted to many in his school that he was gay and had started enduring harassment from many people around him. He had asked Brandon, the 14 year old boy who shot him, to be his Valentine, Brandon then showed up to school, entered their school's computer lab and shot Larry twice in the back of the head.

Ummm..... I really don't know where to go from here as I'm starting to tear up again. I'm just wondering how do we get to a place like this? How has society not risen above this sort of prejudice? What kind of message is society sending to kids that would make one act so violently towards another because of a simple Valentine proposal? Just what exactly makes a certain person disposable in the eyes of another?

It takes a lot of courage to come out to people especially at such a young age. It's perhaps been the most terrifying experience of my personal existance and I was in my 20's when I started telling people, I couldn't even fathom coming out at 15. But on top of that, to be met with hostility and violence for the sake of being truthful with yourself and with others just makes it all the more difficult. Everyone, Everyone, EVERYONE has the right to a peaceful state of mind and to love freely who they choose. That is everyone's God Given Right and to deny a single person that right is the purest form of hatred and cruelty in my mind.

My heart goes out to the families involved and to society in general for the way we treat each other. Tolerance takes a lot of time and I hope even in this high paced world we can work harder on achieving it together. I leave you now with this clip of Ellen Degeneres talking about this tragedy on her talk show last week as she is a lot more eloquent when it comes to matters like this, my head is far too jumbled. Please watch here and try not to forget that tragedies like this are occuring daily and we can stop it by helping to change our little portion of society. If you don't understand something (or you fear something) educate yourself on the matter, don't dispose of it or ignore it.

Paula Abdul: Dance Like There's No Tomorrow Video

I think Paula has done a pretty good job with the video for her new single. She looks good (I'm loving that she's in her classic dress shirt and black slacks that she often wore in her video's back in the day), the song is good and she shows off just how well she can still perform and dance around.

The one problem I have with the video is the fact that Ryan Seacrest and Simon Cowell show in the end shot. What the fuck is that Paula? I get why Randy is in the video, he produced the song and it is on his Music Club: Volume 1 album, but what is the point in having simon and Ryan in it. You already premiered the video on American Idol...I think that was enough of a tipping of the hat to the show.

Oh well, I knew it wouldn't be perfect, but it's nice anyway.

Dead Like Me: Teaser Movie Trailer

For those of you who were fans of the show Dead Like Me here is the official teaser trailer for the straight to DVD movie that is expected to drop in stores sometime this year.

The show about a bunch of misfit Grim Reapers had a huge cult following but sadly only aired for two seasons. By the time the rabid fans of the show sent petitions to have it brought back to television, actor Mandy Patinkin (who played head reaper Rube) was already on another series. The entire cast with the exception of Patinkin and actress Laura Harris who played Daisy Adaire are back for the film (including my personal favorite Christine Willes as Deloris Herbig "as in Her Big brown eyes).

As far as I can tell, the Reapers have a new Head Reaper named Cameron Kane and George (played brilliantly by Ellen Muth) has been communicating with her younger sister Reggie. Watch the trailer to get a better idea of what I'm talking about.

Kylie Minogue: In My Arms

Taylor Dayne: Beautiful

Paula Abdul is not the only one making a comeback. Taylor Dayne is back and according to this video she is bringing the early 90's back with her.

This song is off of her new album "Satisfied" which came out this past Tuesday and I really like the song (and album). The album is really soulful (which let's face it, is what Taylor does best) and her vocals are just as powerful now as they ever were, but isn't this video a little too 1992? I mean really, every female vocalist back in the early 90's had a video where it was them frolicking around while Calvin Klein models took their shirts off (not that I'm complaining), even Alanis did it, Remember the Feel Your Love video?

Anyway, it's a really nice album. She does two cover songs, the Red Hot Chili Peppers classic "Under The Bridge" and Des'ree's "Kissing You" which is the perfect match for her voice. Beautiful is the first single (duh) so give it a listen.

Paula Abdul: Dance Like There's No Tomorrow [Live]

Okay, Paula Abdul may be crazy as fuck but I have to admit...she puts on a good show. I think this was a pretty good comeback performance. She mixed the old with the new (nice, we like that), she had good stage presence, fine she was lip synching but who doesn't nowadays? Plus considering all of her health problems that slowed down her dancing (early set arthritis, back problems) she moves really well. The song is catchy to boot.

I think if she makes a right proper video for the song and goes in this direction with the new album she is working on (which according to her official website will be out this summer) I think it will be quite a promising comeback all around. Better than Britney's anyway.

Tina Dico: On The Run

This is exciting. This is the video for Tina Dico's first single from her new album Count To Ten which will be available in North America on April 8th. I first came across this Danish born, Britain based singer songwriter when I saw her open for Teitur on his North American tour two years ago. At the time she had already been a featured vocalist on two tracks off of Electronic band Zero 7's second album and was just starting to promote her first international release In The Red. That album has since gone Multi-platinum.

This video was shot at Joshua Tree National Park in LA. According to Tina, "It was 45 degrees on this particular day and with all th running I was starting to hallucinate strange things by the end."

Watch for the Count To Ten tracklisting coming soon. I love this song and I'm really looking forward to the album.

John Mayer recently payed homage to comedian Sacha Baron Cohen's character Borat by wearing the characters popular beach attire, a neon green thong suit, while aboard his boat in the Bahamas last weekend. I really don't know what to say except...some things are better left to the imagination John. Nice ass though.

Idina Menzel: Brave Music Video

Idina Menzel released her new Warner Brothers album this past Tuesday and it absolutely glorious in it's quality. Well written, musically beautiful, production value stellar. I really think everybody should give it a try.

This is the video for her first single Brave. She looks gorgeous. The video came out after the album which I find a bit bizarre but it was worth the wait. Take a look and listen.
